Welcome back to Fun Fact Friday — Where Facts Meet Flavor!

This week, we're taking a classic cocktail family and sending it on a tropical adventure with the Tropical Dragon Mule — our vibrant combination of spicy ginger beer, exotic dragon fruit and lychee, bright lime, and vodka, all served the way a Mule should be: ice-cold in that iconic copper mug. ✨

But how did that copper mug become so recognizable? And how did one cocktail inspire an entire family of Mules?

We're traveling back to the 1940sĀ to find out!

🫚🄃 From Moscow to Mules Everywhere

The Moscow MuleĀ emerged in the United States during the early 1940s, combining vodka, ginger beer, and limeĀ and becoming closely associated with its signature copper mug.

As the cocktail gained popularity, bartenders began realizing something important:

The Mule was a pretty incredible blueprint for experimentation.Ā šŸ‘€

Swap vodka for bourbon and you've got a Kentucky Mule. 🄃

Bring tequila into the mix and you'll find versions commonly called a Mexican Mule. 🌵

Use gin and you've entered London Mule territory. 🌿

From there, the Mule family kept growing.

Over the decades, bartenders began experimenting with fresh fruit, herbs, syrups, infusions, spices, regional ingredients, and eventually zero-proof alternativesĀ while keeping that familiar ginger-forward character at the heart of the drink.

Different ingredients. Different personalities.

Same iconic Mule roots.Ā šŸ¹
